The Miami Marlins take on the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington tonight in the third game of a four game set. The Nationals won the first game of the series on Friday in a doubleheader matchup. Miami won the second the second game on Friday and look to add to that tonight. Washington is leading the National League East by two games over Atlanta. The Nationals record on the season is 63-43 while the Marlins are 49-59 and 14 ½ games behind Washington.
Tonight the Nationals will send right hander Jordan Zimmermann to the mound against Miami. Zimmermann is 8-6 on the season with an ERA of 2.28. He will be going for his sixth consecutive win tonight when he faces the Marlins. Over his last seven starts, Zimmermann is 5-0 with an ERA of just 1.02. On July 13, he defeated this same Marlins team 5-1 throwing six innings of shutout ball. In his last start last Saturday, he won 4-1 against Milwaukee.
The Marlins will send Mark Buehrle to the mound to face the Nationals. Buehrle is 9-10 on the season with an ERA of 3.60. Buehrle is 0-2 with an ERA of 7.52 over his past three appearances. On Monday, against the Braves the southpaw allowed six runs on eight hits and walked four in just 4 1/3 innings. The left hander needs one more win this season to record his 12th straight 10 win year. The last time he faced the Nationals, Buehrle allowed just one run and fanned seven in seven inning of work to record a 2-1 victory.
Last night’s win by Miami was its first in its past four games on the road against the Nationals. Jose Reyes has three hits for the Marlins to extend his hitting streak to 22 games, just one shy of the league best for this season.
The current line has the Nationals favored at home at -170, with the Marlins at +160. The run total is sitting at 7.5. Smart money bettors are taking the Nationals to win tonight behind the Zimmerman. The run total will cash out to those who take the UNDER.
