Nationals look to win three of four in Miami

Tonight the Miami Marlins host the Washington Nationals in a matchup of teams from the east. Miami is trying to get back into a race for a playoff spot, while the Nationals are trying to hold on to first in their division after an excellent start to the season. Tonight is the fourth and last game of the series and the Nationals have won two of the first three

In tonight’s game, Carlos Zambrano will start for the Marlins on the mound. Zambrano is 4-7 on the season with an ERA of 4.20. His team has lost six consecutive starts and hopes it does not reach seven. In his 12 years pitching in the major leagues, none of his teams has ever lost seven consecutive starts. He has had success over Washington, as he is 7-2 with an ERA of 2.83 in his last nine games facing the Nationals. This season in two starts, he is 1-1 with an ERA of 2.77. He has held Ryan Zimmerman, Adam LaRoche and Danny Espinosa to just one hit in a combined 17 trips to the plate.

Edwin Jackson will start for the Nationals on the mound against a struggling Marlins offense. Jackson is 5-4 on the season with an ERA of 3.73. In his five career starts versus the Marlins, Jackson is 1-4 with an ERA of 5.33. However, he will face a Marlins team that is hitting just .213 in the series against the Nationals. The Marlins in the first three games have 30 strikeouts, two extra base hits and have only 4 hits in 26 at bats with runners in scoring position.

Only one home run has been hit between the two teams in the series and that was by the Nationals’ Zimmerman. Rookie sensation Bryce Harper for the Nationals has just 1 hit in 12 at bats including 4 Ks in the first three games of the series.

Tonight’s line has the two teams even at -110 with the total sitting at 8. Smart money takes the Nationals to win the game with the total cashing out to the UNDER.
