Nike Asks Barkley to go Easier on LeBron
LeBron James is more than a player; his has become a force to be reckon with. His stats are more than impressive and he has multiple deals over the course of his career that has helped him build his brand name. One such company that has helped to elevate his celebrity status is Nike who has ran multiple campaigns for LeBron.
Barkley has recent claimed that Nike has called him asking why he “doesn’t like” LeBron in regards to his comments claiming that “These athletes today are all wussified,” and that is despite him also claiming in the same breath that “LeBron’s been the best player in the league for three years” The issue here is that numerous people have recently criticized LeBron and it simply has not only been Barkley. So the question remains, did Nike single out Barkley, and were Barkley’s comments fair? That is a question currently being asked by many.
It’s very reasonable to assume that Nike is just working hard to protect the image of LeBron. This really isn’t new, especially if he is one of their highest grossing celebrity spokesmen. Being that Barkley has a large fan base and a variety of people who listen to what he says, it is also worth noting that perhaps he isn’t being singled out for any other reason besides having the biggest fan base and the largest audience of listeners.
LeBron James is a 26 year old player for the Miami Heat. He started playing in 2004 and has twice been named MVP.
